I view day 3 to be the start of a turn around for me. My temp was still a bit higher than my doctors would like but it had dropped to 99.8 which was an improvement. It helped me a lot to be seemingly moving forward even though it was baby steps. I was able to sit in a chair for about 45 minutes that day as well as have my catheter removed! Jackie suggested that I move to a solid intake as she thought I needed the nourishment...which I was so thankful for! That afternoon, around 3 I was transferred out of ICU and into a regular hospital room.
I was so happy to be moved out of ICU because my sons could now visit me! My husband brought them to my room along with my mom. I was greeted with cards, flowers, and a black forest ham sub from subway. I managed to eat that sub and keep it down which was a really great sign of improvement. At the end of their visit it was hard to say goodbye, but we were all tired and needed rest.
That evening the nurses were a bit concerned because I had not voided since having the cath removed. I tried several times and it would just not come out! I was a bit freaked when the head nurse came in at 2 am and said "Well, we are at the point where if you do not pee within the next hour we will have to call the Doctor and may need to re-catheterize you." That was all I needed to hear to chug a 32 ounce water bottle and void before 3 am. When the nurse returned she was so glad that I had successfully went. I told her "you scared it out of me, the second I heard re-catheterize I knew I was not going to let that go down." We had a good chuckle and I finally had a few solid hours of sleep.
